A stargazing boy decides that he would like to catch a star of his own. He devised many plans to reach one, but none of them pan out. He walks along the beach, sad but hopeful that one, “might wash up on the shore.” After a long time of watching and waiting, a (sea) star washes up at last!
Talented Jeffers’ debut is clever, endearing, and charming. The watercolor paintings are offbeat, geometric, stylized and appealing. The ending is sweetly satisfying for both protagonist and reader.
